Learning Technologist

Summary:
Working alongside the CIO to provide robust, consistent and dynamic solutions for
LALs VLE (Virtual learning Environment) as well as in class use of Technology by
Academic Staff to deliver a consistent 21st Century product to our clients at all our
locations.
To oversee the use of Information technology (IT) in the Classroom and help devise
the company’s Academic Technology strategy whilst ensuring that all systems
necessary to support its operations and objectives are in place.

  • Salary: £27,000 per annum
  • Location: Torbay or Twickenham

  • Contract length: Permanent

Main Tasks & Responsibilities

· To develop and support learning and teaching using technology to enhance

the learning and teaching experience

· To support academic staff in the appropriate use of tools for eLearning

· To work with staff to create learning objects, using interactive tools, the

company’s VLE and cloud technology

· To facilitate staff development by hosting seminars, workshops and 1 to 1

training

· To take a proactive role in providing technology-enhanced learning support

for students using blended learning as appropriate

· To be responsible for technical liaison with appropriate departments within

the Company, for example IT Services

· To develop e-learning and training materials on the use of learning

technologies, for staff within the Company

· To research and evaluate effective use of VLEs and other relevant learning

technologies and to keep abreast of developments in the English Language

Industry nationally and internationally

· To provide support to other departments within LAL in terms of ongoing

projects and solutions, namely Summer Schools and Young Learners

· To maintain a working knowledge of the classroom and technology trends

by teaching when appropriate or depending on other work responsibilities

· To participate in relevant projects as required by the line manager

 

Person Specification

 

Essential

Qualifications

  • Educated to UK equivalent NQF Level 6

Experience

  • At least 5 years in Language travel

      · Experience of developing eLearning solutions and high quality teaching and learning resources

      · Teaching in the classroom and virtually

Aptitudes

  • Ability to work with high levels of accuracy and demonstrate attention to detail in providing high-quality e-learning resources
  • Ability to think and operate strategically in order to develop and maximise the impact of academic development activities

Skills & Abilities

  • Highly analytical, thorough, outcome motivated
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities

Circumstances

  • Able to work flexible/unsocial hours should the need arise.
  • Undertake occasional international travel

Desirable

Qualifications

  • Educated to UK equivalent of UK NQF level 7
  • Academic Technology Related Degree

Experience

  • Training academic staff, 1 to 1 or in groups, face to face or online
  • Excellent knowledge of the effective use of Virtual Learning Environments and associated technical standards

Aptitudes

  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Take accountability for one’s own actions and any consequences that arise from them
  • Build trust  through  openness,  honesty  and integrity, a great way to encourage Academic staff to contribute and use LALs Academic Technologies
