Leisure Co-ordinator

To work with the Leisure Manager and the leisure team in guaranteeing the smooth running of all on-site activities, excursions and transfers.

This post involves the ability to help plan, manage and execute a successful leisure programme involving excursions and activities as well as ensuring all staff on activity duty and excursions are thoroughly prepared for their task.

 

The role of Leisure Co-ordinator is an important one directly concerned with the welfare and enjoyment of overseas junior students. This requires the post-holder to also perform all the duties expected from an Activity Leader. There will be a strong emphasis on assisting Leisure Management with planning and overseeing the excursion programme as well as training staff and ensuring everyone on excursions (staff, students and International Group Leaders) have all the information they need. You will also help to ensure the successful execution of a full range of programmed activities and events on-site.

 

The Leisure C0-ordinator will be fun, very organised, motivated and have a strong working knowledge of the excursion destinations, excursion procedure, relevant airports and the school’s surrounding area. The ideal post-holder will be confident and out-going with a keen eye for detail, with the ability to lead and motivate the activity team. They will have a detailed understanding of a variety of sports and activities.

Main Responsibilities and Tasks:

 

Leisure Responsibilities

  • To perform all duties and tasks expected from an Activity Leader.
  • To be jointly responsible with line management for the smooth running of the leisure programme, which includes activities, excursions and airport transfers.
  • To assist line manager in all aspects of planning, improving and delivering the leisure programme.
  • To assist line manager in co-ordinating airport transfers to and from the school.
  • To lead and assist with both arrival and departure airport transfers, providing a positive first and last impression of LAL Summer Schools.
  • To assist line manager in the allocation of staff to the leisure programme.
  • To lead activities and excursions and assist with the development and training of Activity Leaders on excursion/activity leadership, ensuring students’ safety and well-being at all times.
  • To actively encourage students to fully take part in the leisure programme.
  • To lead students and staff on activities.
  • To ensure that all aspects of the leisure programme run smoothly and safely.
  • To assist in daily administrative and pastoral tasks as requested by line management, including meal monitoring.
  • To assist line management in all aspects of planning and delivering the activity programme.
  • To organise and lead fun, engaging and safe activities for the students.
  • To take initiative in designing new activities and ideas for the leisure programme and to ensure all activities are well promoted to staff and students, ensuring an enthusiastic response to the whole activity programme.
  • To assist the Leisure Manager in ensuring that there is always a clear plan and rota outlining the activity programme, produced well in advance.

 

Welfare Responsibilities

  • To provide House Parent cover as and when required (up to 2 nights per week) which includes:
  • Managing the residence, ensuring that it is a secure, welcoming and functioning environment – maintaining order and cleanliness.
  • Remaining on-site and in the designated residence at all times when on House Parent duty, ensuring students know where to go if they have a problem during the night.
  • Conducting nightly house meetings with all students staying in the residence.
  • Ensuring students go to bed on time and that order is kept at night times.
  • To assist House Parents, where necessary, in ensuring students are in their accommodation on time for the house meetings and bed.
  • To accompany students living in Host Families to and from the summer school.
  • To assist students in being on time for meals, transport arrangements and all planned activities.
  • To hold the centre 24-hour emergency phone on a rota basis.

 

Other Responsibilities

  • To be fully engaged with students and International Group Leaders in the rigours of summer school work, providing excellent customer service while delivering the LAL Summer School product.
  • To consistently ensure the welfare of the students remains paramount.
  • To live on-site, board and lodging provided as part of the salary package, from four days prior to the start of the course to attend induction training, until the end of the last contracted day.
  • To carry out all tasks concerned with the setting up, administration and closing down of the course as advised by line management.
  • To address any student, International Group Leader or host site representative issues, complaints or suggestions by ensuring that the relevant LAL staff are made aware.
  • To act in a friendly and professional manner with all of LAL’s agents, clients and staff and not to engage in any activity which may bring LAL or the designated host school into disrepute.
  • To assist all students, International Group Leaders and LAL agents to derive the maximum benefit from the course.
  • To follow all LAL policies and procedures, including but not limited to dress code, safeguarding, maintaining student discipline and avoiding loss and/or damage to LAL property or property belonging to the host school.
  • To read and be fully conversant with all training materials relating to the role, and all pertinent British Council Accreditation requirements, prior to the start of the period of employment.
  • To both lead and attend all required meetings with staff, fellow senior staff, International Group Leaders and host site representatives.
  • To assist students in being on time for meals, transport and all excursions, including supervising at meal times on a rota basis.
  • To assist Welfare Manager and House Parents where necessary, in ensuring students are in their accommodation on time and in bed.
  • To be flexible to carry out any other duties as may be reasonably assigned by the Summer School management team, either in centre or at Head Office.

Education, Training and Knowledge

Salary

Core salary and bonuses

  • Weekly basic salary: GBP 305
  • Maximum weekly bonus: GBP 20

Returning Staff

Returning staff will be paid an additional GBP 15 per week for their second year with LAL, and an additional GBP 5 for each additional year worked up to a maximum of GBP 30 per week.

Accommodation Allowance

The basic salary for this residential role includes an accommodation allowance of GBP 42 per week. Non-residential staff will be paid an additional allowance of GBP 42 per week.
